Removing Fear From Your Life
Without fear , it becomes amazing what one can accomplish.
What is fear then, that it limits a person so?
Fear is a judgement that a negative potential is about to become real.
That’s the trick of fear… it isn’t real in itself. Fear is all about negative potentials and that potential is never real until it’s pushed into reality. If one focuses fear to that negative potential, often times, the fear is the connection required to make the negative potential real.
So in being fearless, you side step around negative potentials. That is very powerful. The only thing is in being fearless you also must not be reckless.
Fearlessness must always be paired with awareness.
Since many people have turned off their awareness, they in turn let their fears compensate for the lack of awareness. That is a sad and limited life indeed.
We move thru potentials, every choice we make, builds up potential or unlocks a potential to become real.
People choose by their actions what will and will not happen. to let fear guide a path, will mean avoiding or missing many opportunities also. If you let awareness guide your path, then it is possible to explore, assess and determine which potentials are the ones most graceful to embrace and how to navigate successfully around any negative results.
Since it’s impossible to avoid all negative impacts we also teach in Taoism to learn from everything including our actions that do stir up negative results. So any step into negative potential continue to build up positive potential for later use.
This simply means living to fear limits our lives and living with awareness it’s possible to make the most of our lives.

How can you evaluate the negative potentials for consequences for yourself and others without fear? When you are responsible for others- how do you make the appropriate choices for yourself?
Hi Jen,
It’s a good question. The problem — particularly for us in the West — is that we’re conditioned to only identify with one form of cognition, involving analysis, evaluation, judgement. There’s another way — a powerful way that you can always rely on to help you, but it’s just the opposite of thinking; awareness of this sort is awareness without the ego, or self. It’s pure awareness, without the baggage of conditioned thought, which is the “self”.
It’s simple in concept but difficult in practice because the mind is clever and will not let go of your emotions easily. Awareness is beyond thought, beyond the machinations of the mind or ego. To reach that awareness you need the courage to face life “naked” — to observe intensely without choice, without the self image you carry around with you. In that awareness there is no fear. In that awareness lies the Tao.
First: you must understand there isn’t a single map to this process. You have to process everything relative to your situation.
Secondly: you have to remove fear as a limitation.. otherwise you wont make any steps ahead.
Thirdly: You make small steps and then revise your results depending on what happens.
Fourth: You make sure you don’t diminish yourself, otherwise you cant help those you love later.
Again its case by case. When possible you use any negative situations at hand to actually turn you around and assist your motion out of the problems and fear ahead.
Great article. I teach people to drive and find when i can reduce or remove a pupils fear they perform more skillfully and therefore much more safely. It seems to me a calm mind gives best results
Thanks Simon
Yes fear diminishes one, and does reduce one’s potential greatly.
You dont want to be fearless, you want to not let fear define you. A difference, but an important point. Occasionally fear can serve a purpose, to extend awareness. But most people let it define their awareness and that’s not living at all. IN other words most people actually permit fear to diminish their awareness and that’s bad.
