A Personal Tao
Discover the Tao and Taoism. This is a guide to the heart and a handbook for discovering the Tao.
Volume 2:
Living Grace. Now in work! Follow Personal Tao

i’ve never really been one for religion, im not one to sit there and debate about gods because every religion has their own beliefs. i believe that we are all here living life now how we choose to and we all have the option to look for a higher being. im 17 and i’ve just recently started martial arts to strengthen my body, defend myself and learn to find peace and learn to relax. i just sort of tripped over taoism and was facinated and was interesed in following such. i guess my question is, like other religions where you have to be ushered in by a church of some sort, is there something you have to do to become a follower of taoism or is it just something that becomes a practice, and how can i learn more to really start to follow
@Nathaniel:
Good question. no single path to finding taoism from the outside, from the inside it is following your heart, taking time to explore your nature with an eye towards kindness, compassion and grace.
In other words the first steps are take time to explore your own life. then later in life, as you find points that confuse you, listen carefully around the world, and when you hear those who make sense, pay attention and learn.
then after a while you figure out who you like and are in sync with and you share time with them and exchange stories and build upon what you accept and know.
Eventually you may find someone like myself or other teacher, but by then you would have answered most if not all of your own questions just by living your own life wisely
Teachers can help you find out many truths, but the first truth is to take time and patiently live your own life, to go out and play, go out and experience multiple angles of life
What is the Taoist belief about spirits and angels?
@nathaniel
Sounds to me like you are already following the path, continue as you have and trust in what you find to be true. You may find that the tao follows you on your path and that you wil be able to find it where you least expect.
@casey

@Nic:
Welcome! And thanks Also, Soon enough i will open up a simple forum also. I have it ready just cleaning it up now.
@Kate: that is a good question but as in Christianity or any other system of belief the answer can be complicated with no single answer covering Taoism as a whole
Eventually I will write up a more detailed answer to post in the FAQ.
The fast simplified answer is yes Taoists in general believe in spirits and we have spiritual beings which can be considered as angels.
